A dilemma - Go or stay

Could be a decent day at Vann's Saturday & maybe some good Sunday real early, but there's a NE 25 K forecast on the coast for both days. I got my Honda running so I have the wheels, but this is a tough one. Any body want to sail here tomorrow & day trip Tybee Sunday? Nitro- what's your plan? Call me.

Hey Chris. As of right now, the Savannah marine forecast is 25-30kt (with gale force winds possible) on Sunday. So there is a very good chance we will go down there on Sunday. I'll give you a call

Anyone else interested -- could be a chance to get that 4.0 wet?

Where will you sail? Ocean side or the marsh side?

If it still looks good this evening for Sunday, then I will probably go.

Marek, I really don't know of any place sail on the marsh side -- so it will be open ocean sailing only. The low tide is supposed to be around 2 in the afternoon so maybe the shorebreak won't be too gnarly in the afternoon. But if the wind is really 25-30 kts, the conditions will be very challenging.

As far as launces go, check out this link http://www.hightidesurfshop.com/kiteboarding/launchsites.html . I would probably check out spot number 1. If the shorebreak is too much there, I would go check out spot 4 or 3 -- hopefully it would be flatter there. If you do decide to go, let me know so we can have a designated place to meet.

Hey ya'll - couple quick questions for you guys - 1) how does on get to tybee island/how far north of jacksonville is it? 2) i'm probably classified as an beginner/intermediate shortboarder - i waterstart well and can stay upwind pretty well but haven't quite got my jibes down , plus, ive never sailed waves before - should i just stay in jacksonville where its a little less windy, or should i consider driving up to tybee to give it a shot?

Josh, it looks like the tide will be in low during the the middle of the day in Jacksonville (making Hugenot unsailable), so it might be a good idea to look for another spot to sail. If you want to try some ocean sailing, I would probably head to St. Simons. It will be an hour closer, plus there is a sand bar that will help keep the shorebreak down. It won't be 'wave' sailing, but you should get some intense bump and jump sailing there. Plus I know of at least on other windsurfer who will be there on Sunday.

Good luck!

I've sailed at #2 several times. If I go, I will probably stop by at site #1 to see if it is better.

The Marsh side is directly opposite to site #2 at about 15th/16th street. Not much parking and very small access to watter at end of street, but good if the ocean side is too wild. Probably best to stay on Ocean side unless its blowing at 4.0m.

Would the marsh side you describe work in a NE wind? It seems like the wind would be directly offshore there.

If the ocean is not too out of control I will try spot #1 or #2. If it is too wild, I may try spot #3 as this would put you inside the bay (but I never seen this launch so I don't know for sure if it will work)
