Daytona Beach Sailing

I am taking the family down to Ormand beach (just north of Daytona) and would like to get a little sailing in. I am not a wave sailer and prefer flat protected waters especially with the kids learning. I emailed Sandy Point and they didn't offer any specifics. Has anyone sailed there, if so what do you suggest? I am going down the third week of September.

Thanks, Alan

Alan,

I have not sailed at Sandy Point, but I have been to their shop/launch. I can tell you a few things. 1. Its not a wave sailing type spot - there seems to be land (island?) aways out from their launch, so you won't have to deal with big waves. It's pretty much a protected spot. 2. Bring some booties or something - they said they has lots of oyster shells or something. 3. I think you can rent gear from them, so if you don't know what to bring I think they can cover it. 4. I've sailed in St. Augustine (50 miles north) during the summer a few times. I went in early July, but there was generally decnet wind for learning there (esp. at Windsurfing St. Augustine's spot) and I did manage about one planning day with a wide board and 8.5 sail both times I was there.

Thanks Randy

That helps. I will email them again about renting gear. That may save some room in the van. See you Galts in a few weeks. It won't be long now.
