just about every SPSC member has a weed fin! Im sure if it gets bad enough some one would give one up for the cause! I was out last week end and the weeds were there but not to bad. Things can change with the storms. I guess you have to take the good with the bad. I wouldnt miss the fall classic! After last year learning about sucker puffs and all. Hope you have a crew comming down for the Endless Summer. Im sure this year will be a blast as usual.

Endless Summer ?

...... Dan & I are planning to go to the Endless Simmer in October. I hope some of the Atlanta people that haven't been will make it too. If there was ever a regatta with the emphasis on a good time, this is the one. (Kelvin, Mimi, Shreddin' Betty, LeeO'C, Windlord??) See you there.

OK, you've got my attention. Windsurfing and free camping sounds good to me. Any more info on the typical weekend schedule? If I'm able to go I couldn't leave Atlanta until Friday morning. (all of the links at the SPSC are still under construction)

It takes me about 5-6 hrs to get to the beach at Shell Point (directly south of Tallahassee). They usually have wings & stuff at the race site on Friday late afternoon and the beer truck starts pouring then too. Continental b'fast, Registration & check in Sat a.m. and racing starts late morning, depending on tides. Shell Point likes to do Slalom and or Long Distance race if it's windy enough in addition to course racing. They always offer a Sport Fleet and sometimes a beginner or 'first time racer' group. Dinner is included and tons of door prizes. They always have a great dance band on the beach that plays later than I do.

The beach scene is an interesting mix of local homeowners, college kids & faculty and rednecks from deep in those panhandle woods. The beach is self is ungoing a big transformation. The motel that was there for many years blew away (probably for the best) and the redevelopment looks like it will make the area a lot nicer. I've heard that the club has partnered with the county to build a new pavillion on the beach with restrooms. There are some motels not too far away, but I usually camp for the convenience.

when it comes to popping the board onto a plane the fin just keeps the board from spinning around in circles(realy if it is done right a fin is not required)

point the board off the wind and pump the sail with the front hand mostly(70%) and back hand just to keep tension in the sail(do not sheet in)
this info comes from using 9.8 sails that can not be sheeted in
and small 4.2 & 4.7 sails that over sheet very easy
the most important thing is presentation- the sail to the wind and board direction(off the wind)

i noticed this when i started to use very small fins- that i can use the board to get me going and to coast the lulls. Keep the board flat.(unless you want to turn!)

the fin is used for stuff that happens after you pop your board on a plane.
