Lake Arenal in Costa Rica is a world class wind sport destination. For years Tico Winds has been the go-to place for instruction and gear rental for windsurfing, kitesurfing, and beginning last year wing-foiling. Lake Arenal is know for dependable strong wind and warm water from early winter through spring.
Unfortunately the government has not renewed the concession for Tico Winds, and there is no other company in the country catering to windsurfers. If you are concerned and would like to see the concession renewed please email the consulate in Atlanta at: or call the Costa Rica consulate at: (770) 951-7025

Marek is a former Atlanta windsurfer who has moved to live near Hood River & The Gorge. For years he's sailed at Lake Arenal in Costa Rica during the winter season. Marek reports the following:
Tico was told that they can’t set up their operation like they did in the past. Last year Peter was allowed to bring his equipment by trailer everyday but had to remove everything by end of day. So his operation was limited. Send him a message directly to check what status will be for this winter season.
