Club Get-Together, Swap Meet, Another Windsurf Clinic ????

There has been talk going around concerning having a Club Get-together, Swap Meet, Learn to Windsurf Clinic (including a previous students free refresher course) Event at the end of August. It would kind of be an end of the summer, beginning of the sailing season kick-off event. We might could even dig out the Wind Altar and have a Wind Ceremony. What’s everyone think? Any interest?

And maybe even campout at one of Laniers campgrounds? (I just thought of that.)

Camping would be fun - if I 'm in town, I'll be there.

Sounds like a great idea -- but the end of August seems like a hot, windless time of year to plan an event like that. What about in September?

I think the previous studens of windsurf clinics will think it is a great idea.
I'll bet the ones that I have brought to the clinics will attend.

campgrounds charge admission, I believe and may restrict access to non-campers. I think this used to be an issue at Old Federal Campground... I think.

Maybe second weekend in Sept? Boat traffic drops dramatically when football starts. Water will still be warm, though.

Here are the rules for camping at Old Federal. I think this is pretty typical for the campgrounds at Lanier.

Reservations must be made at least 2 days in advance. 2 night minimum on weekends. 3 night minimum on holidays.

The campground is open March - November and sites range from $16 - $22/night.

8 person maximum per site including visitors.

1-3 vehicles per site with 3 vehicles maximum within campground including visitors.

Attendants are scheduled 7:00am-10:30pm and the campground telephone number is (770) 967-6757. Check-in time is 4pm and checkout time is 3pm.

Park gates are locked from 10:30pm until 7am.

Alcoholic beverages are prohibited at all corps parks on Lake Lanier.

The camping idea was seperate from the event, I wasnt saying have the event at a campground. After the event was over, instead of going back to Atlanta or where ever, anyone who wanted to camp could get a site at a camp ground. If we had a group, we may could get sites next to each other, and each site could have a visitor or 2. It was just an idea.

Everyone should come to the meeting on TUESDAY and let's talk about it and maybe make some decissions.

Gene, step away from the caffeine... Wink

It's a good idea. I just thought you meant having the event at OF, VP south, etc.

Does Sept 24-25 work for anybody? It's the only weekend in Sept with no invitational regatta happening at LLSC. I can work on getting an okay from the BOD at LLSC to have an Open House / Opening Day / Wind Ceremony / Grillout / Campout event.

Respond quickly if you can, since I think their meeting is tonight. I can probably still get this on their agenda.

Oh, and alcohol is permitted (some would say 'required', but it's not so) at LLSC. cv

LLSC would be super, if that would be possible.

I will ask Sabine - the girls were asking about camping this past weekend. I need to buy a junky rig to practice skateboard jybes :-).

BTW: I still have not tried hard to free my stuck mast. I made a quick attempt before work one morning in 101% humidity and the boom on the upper section was slipping - I need a shim of some sort...
Also, I bought Dasher's Jybing DVD - I recommend it to the challenged with $29.
