one day left - at least on the SC coast. we've had two days of 4.5 to 5.5 ENE. 5-to-7 foot faces with real lips - not the rolly-polly stuff. looks like 6.0 today, but my body needs a break anyway. hope some of you folks made it to salty water to play.

Chris - i got a visit from brother twin fin yesterday in the early afternoon session. out about 300 yards and wiped out. almost as soon as i hit the water, i got a huge bump on the back of the harness and saw those eyes when it thrashed around to leave!!! of course, my board was upside down and the sail on the leeward side and i'm on a sinker. murky, churned up water. could be a record recovery. anyway, i sailed out another 200 yards looking for a place to jibe that seemed to offer a reasonable chance at success. it wasn't pretty, but i stayed on the board and booked it for shore. if you lean back far enough, you can plow about 10 feet into the soft sand before going over the bars. after cleaning out my bathing suit, i went back out just to test the old 'get back on the horse' theory. after a few laps the 12-footer had shrunk to about 4 or 5 feet and i'd convinced myself it was a brotherly courtesy call to remind me who owns the pool. that's the old 'horse s..t' theory. nerves had calmed by the late afternoon session and yahoo what rides.

Hey Tim, Wow! That's scary. The murky water down there always gives me the willies. Thank goodness you didn't have any old or new blood on the harness to peak his interest... You think you landed on him or he was swimming along to see who was faster?

3 good sessions since the meeting. just guessing - but i think he/she was in the neighborhood and came over to investigate the thrashing. pretty sure i was faster once i got back on the board.

usually the water here is clear once you get past the shore-break zone. i see the sharks almost weekly in the summer about 10 to 15 feet down - just cruising and beautiful. tues and Wed the water looked more like the jekyll / St Simon's stew and the pucker factor does notch up when you know they can smell you but can't quite see you.

jay janco was on the island for several days this week. the surf was pretty rough for his first session. hope he got some better stuff later in the week.

seas breezes are beginning to fire every afternoon and will until the water heats up in late july and august. don't let the shark story keep you from these sweet port-side jumping opportunities . . . peace s, tc
