My foil setup has a "long nose" for windsurf and came with a short nose (I actually have 2 of them) for kitesurf and SUP. What I'm wondering is w/o the 20lb some 40 inches in front of the foil mast should I use a short or long nose if I were to use the inflatable wing. Does this depend more on the board or on the rig?

I think it depends more on where you stand. You still need the foil wing under you. If anything, you want to have as long a nose as possible so you don't have to be all the way back on the board to get off the water like you do with a windfoil.
I think... I'd at least start there. If the foil wing is too far back, you aren't ever getting off the water. Maybe you can put your board beside Neil's and make some measurements?

Looks like this guy was foiling on a regular slalom board with AFS windfoil. Judging from this, you'd want at least the windfoil setup or even the wing further forward. Do you still have your track adapter for your foil? Maybe you could glue one of the aftermarket tracks to the Formula Jr.?
It probably wouldn't be that hard to put a box into the F136. But, I'll probably just try the RF81 first with the windfoil setup and see what happens. (If anything other than a lot of splashing when I fall into the water.)

I probably should have posted this before, but I did think of putting the wing on some lines with regular kite bar or some other control scheme with lines. probably need to attach lines to the back wingtips to get much control over it. Would be perfect for kiters that miss their lines.

Randy, if you make the lines a bit longer, you get the wing up into cleaner air and don't have to worry as much about tip drag... wait, that's already been done.

Cool kite and execution. Pumping might be a problem, however... just dawned on me. Hard to pull if you can't push. Something, something ... pushing on a string.
Pumping is quite useful for kites. Just a sharp pull towards you and then move your hand(s) back and the kite will fly back to its normal position by itself. I've got a video for that too, but all of our readers (or is it reader? or are there any?) are probably tired of my video's by now. Or maybe I'm just tired of them.

You're absolutely right. Still wondering how effective the lines would be to pump in low wind situations since that's where the majority of pumping happens. Will the wind reset the kite quick enough to allow the strenuous pumping we see? But, you're point remains, handles aren't required to pump. Any 8 yr old that yanked on a kite line to keep a kite in the air could have told me that. Thanks for the correction.

You are right - its less effective when the wind is too low. It just takes too much work to keep going. It is more useful if the kite is undersized for the wind, or trying to get through a hole or turbulence. Also, it is useful to build some apparent wind to accelerate just like trying to get planing. (Note this applies to the kinds of kites I use, not necessarily LEI's, which I don't have much experience with.) This video after 2:00 shows some pumping but it is probably hard to see. I'm trying to get past the turbulence created by that annoying tree.

I was thinking that foil mast was pretty short when he dropped in the water like that. Works in the Keys and Rodanthe. Anywhere else? Not so much.

New slang for winging: ding-a-linging or dinging. At 16:15 they talk about taking the wing about 4-5k upwing, having lunch and deflating the wing on the beach and then doing a downwind surf foil. Lanier anyone?
