Not really a review of using the Starboard Aluminum foil*, but rather a discussion of the complicated task of opening a box, and taking the contents out and putting them together. Not that actual instructions are given, rather the discussion is more general. One key point - you are supposed to take the whole thing apart after each session to prevent corrosion. Not too appealing. Maybe carbon is the way to go.
*and I thought only Reynolds Wrap was still in that business.
What happens in a black hole stays in a black hole.
Carbon is the way to go if you can afford the difference. The taking apart advice is probably a lot stronger for those who sail in salt water. There are some people who are willing to turn a few screws to save $1300, however. Had I not bought a used carbon foil, this Starboard foil looks pretty attractive.
The biggest take away is the mention at the bottom of a number of new foils focused on early take off rather than outright speed. I continue to think foils will provide what we've been looking for for thirty years: light air planing performance without monster sails.
And now, the answer to the question that has been nagging at Randy for some time: do cat's do foil?
Happy New Year
