Hi gang. Land locked mud puddle sailor from Memphis, TN. When you see the local water we sail on you will agree. The standing joke about Arkabutla Lake is "too thick to swim in....too thin to plough".
Just joined and always glad to meet more water friends. Not many of us left in Memphis and was hoping to stir the pot with some war stories, pics and vids. I did roll through the gallery and was jazzed to see what looks like an active group. Ours really is down to 5 or 6 let and most are hard core and pretty picky about when they sail. So glad to meet folks that want to sail.
That said, and by way of introduction.... I am a gray hair...long in tooth and rounder than I used to be...crabby and opinionated. Attached is a vid of me and a few friends from Nov 2014. The big sail for the day was a 5.7...I sail small and was on 4.7.
Like to see some of yalls pics or vids in the reply.

Welcome! Yeah, that is pretty "thick" water. You probably don't confuse your videos with those from Bonaire very often.
(btw, I just popped your video link into the box that comes up when you click the Vimeo button on the little tool bar)
Thnx for the fix and yeah...it's only thick to look at...shallow lake so it heats quickly in the spring but cools off quickly too.
Don't wear a white T-shirt.

I just googled "wet white T-shirt". Didn't see anything about windsurfing. I'm going to keep searching, though.
(Do not do this at work without having Safe Search on!)

Here's a video of something we can actually do around here this time of year. Could try this with a windsurf board. I think this is probably about how it would turn out since boards are mainly Styrofoam. Maybe someone can loan me a board and we can find out.

Randy, God bless your mother. I'll bet you were an "active" child.

Actually, I got my "AQ" (Activity Quotient) from her. Here's a photo from her 90th birthday a few months ago.

Nice video Mac... reminds me of this one from Lanier.
Nice,
Can't help on the tshirt research but let us know.
Dug the hot ball of nickle (and I'll hold your rig for you while you test your board).
Chris, the water is clearer and I like the launch point. What time of year? Thanks for posting as I am jonesing pretty bad. Maybe one of these days I can make it down for a long weekend when the season changes. Although as I get older, the 100 degree rule applies more.... sometimes its more like 110. Laughs.

Mac
Here are a few videos to share. Some of Windsurfing, some Hobie Cats, some dirt bikes.

Randy, your mom looks great. So glad she's still kicking it.
Mac, the hard core around here usually draw the line around 38-42 degrees air. The water tends to stay above 50 until mid-Jan with the chilliest around 44-46, iirc. This past year, Feb was the tough month. More folks come out with temps around 48-50 - about the point where gloves aren't necessary.
Randy among others have sailed with snow on the ground but he's not been as bold in the last couple of years. I think his mom needs to have a word with him.
Not sure if any here have done Bird island Basin on North Padre Island near Corpus Christi, TX.
Vid is from me and Eric Cobb sailing his tandem to play around.

Worth looking at...I have contributed pics over the years.... Some great ones of Andy from ABK practicing. Fast flat water with fun chop in the channel.
