These are dots. The represent gusts which are not quite mandatory, but usually a very good sign of there being enough wind to windsurf. Based on experience today looks much better wind wise than tomorrow even thought average wind differs by only 3 mph (10 v 7). The presence of gusts implies a more useful amount of wind. While with the right gear and the right frame of mind, both could work, the 10-15 would likely be far better.

Early vanns report. Geese have over run the lawn. It's a mess by the water. The grass hasn't been cut so this is like a golden corral buffet for them. Waiting for breeze to build
There was some wind today at MAP. Gusts were idk - 10ish, though I quit early (left around 2.) The park was the most crowded I've ever and same for the lake. A couple dozen cars waiting at the entrance to get in when I left. Lots of cars parked by the side of the road as well near the entrance. Lots of boat chop. Lots of people. A few kooks (including me briefly) trying to SUP or paddle a kayak. Ended up sailing 5.0 but not because it was super windy. It did move me along pretty well on my Windsup and was easy.
Oh, and lots goose maird. (Pardon my French.)

Zwerner was good. Not a jetski in sight, Minimal goose poop and plenty of parking.
Today would have been a good day for a beginner to have sailed on Zwerner. There was always at least a breeze and I will concur with Randy that there was some 10ish or more gusts.
I took out the new setup today at lake acworth. The conditions were good for my first time. I sailed for 3ish hours and managed to get around pretty well. Successfully tacked and jibed several time and even made it back to launch spot in a controlled manner!
I definitely need to watch some videos on body position, every time a gust came, I was on my tippy toes.
Hopefully I can make it out with a few of you sometime to get some pointers.
Here is quick look at my 4th of July sailing. Not every year you can sail on the 4th of July.
I was hoping to find some patriotic music like Jimi Hendix' Star Spangled Banner, but I was too cheap to pay for it. So I went with the great American composer Aaron Copeland instead. This was EL&P's cover.

VT report. No cool video available.... decent 10-20 for a while after waiting on the water. A bit gusty but flew the 6.7 and XLW wing (big one). Park was crowded with both people and geese. The lawn is a veritable poop-fest and seeing all the little kids running around barefoot was a bit hard to watch. Should be interesting to see if there's a spike in e. coli cases .
I missed the best picture of the day when I was first launching from the boat ramp. There was a group of about 20 geese all lined up seemingly watching the boats launch.

I'm happy you had a good time. However, your post made me reflect on my own sad state of windsurfing affairs. I have, at the moment, two methods of returning to the launch in a controlled manner: walking and Uber/Lyft.
The challenge is to remember to carry rack straps with me when I go on the water...

while Jem Hall writes this about wind 25-45 mph, the crux of the advice is the same:
Quote:
• Scan ahead for big gusts and lulls, waves and anticipate as oppose to reacting. If it is really windy then when you are really powered up you may have to bear away a lot in the lulls in order to keep downwind!
• Your straight-line mantra is ‘get down James Brown and pull down.’ Drop your arse and really drop your elbows to pull the kit into the water.
• You can actually sail without fully sheeting in during huge gusts, as long as you really pull down on the boom, you often don’t need all that power from the wind! I call this throttling off.
• Remember to also straighten your arms and lift your hips in anticipation of lighter lulls and avoiding the ever so easy oversheeting as the wind drops a bit. https://www.windsurf.co.uk/jem-hall-surfvival/
Front foot position is essential. It must be pointed forward so that sail power is translated into board power. If it's across the board, you'll tend to be pulled over instead of driving the board.
It's a bit of our local lingo. Oh, and Foildood made mention of pm dots. It was an east wind which usually don't survive much past lunchtime if it's sunny. More explanation: https://windsportatlanta.com/wiki/East_Wind_Effect
I think I am going to sail on Zwerner at 2pm
Edit ...maybe 1 pm watching the forecast
Ben Franklin: Hmm. This newspaper says wind in July at Lake Lanier.
John Adams: Sounds like fake news to me.

Looks like pm dots
Alright ive gotta ask, what are dots??

That’s so great, AWD!
It’s the steepest and funnest part of the learning curve... every session is exciting.

Missed your question. Randy did well. I wrote this a while back: https://windsportatlanta.com/story/dots-and-punch

BTW Webster I do have an extra roofstrap around here if you need it. Not to mention a bunch of bungies.

Oh, I'm good. I'll ask my friend, though. He lost a lot of his bungies when his epoxy mast blew off his car on the Connector.
If your windsurf board blows off your car on your way to the lake and you have cut rate car insurance........
