Doug, again: "An interesting feature of this launch is the nearby inlet.  This inlet has an associated sand bar which breaks up the side shore current a bit and offers some interesting bumps.  Just gotta be wary of dragging the fin."

General Information

Oak Island is also close to Wilmington, Cape Fear and Wrightsville Beach which also have good spots to windsurf and kite (and surf). Spring and summer breezes in the area tend to be southerly (SW, S, SE). Somewhat surprisingly, this part of the NC coast runs east/west as it is tucked under and to the west of Cape Fear.
