Oak Island is also close to Wilmington, [[Cape Fear]] and [[Wrightsville Beach]] which also have good spots to windsurf and kite (and surf).

Spring and summer breezes in the area tend to be southerly (SW, S, SE). Somewhat surprisingly, this part of the NC coast runs east/west as it is tucked under and to the west of Cape Fear.
