Windsurfing and Kiteboarding on Lake Acworth
General Information
Lake Acworth was a great beginner spot in the '80s until water quality issues closed it in the '90s. It's open again and clean - it's amazing how getting rid of geese helps.
It's not necessarily a first choice on windy days but boat size restrictions and proximity to Atlanta and Cobb County make it an interesting option. Traditionally, people have launched from the boat ramp on the north shore. There's an access fee in the summer time. More recently, we've used a park on the south shore which is less crowded and free.
Interestingly, Acworth's dam feeds directly into Allatoona Lake. GA 92 drives over the dam. In the winter when Allatoona is usually a fair amount below full pool, it's an interesting contrast.

Beginner Intermediate
Advanced windsurfers might consider this for GPS speed runs as it is quite small and the water would be relatively flat, although likely to be gusty in those conditions.
