The Fall Classic ~ 43rd Edition!

And... we're back! It's number 43 this year! We are returning to a 2 day regatta with the usual amenities of on-site camping, provided meals and social gatherings. Lake Lanier Sailing Club opens on Friday, November 5th, for camping (free) and tuning up for racing that starts Saturday morning. Please contact Chris V if you want to come earlier in the week. That date is a bit later than normal and right at the peak of fall color so motel rooms may be scarce. Make reservations pronto. Camping is pretty civilized at the club and, new this year, we have a limited number of electrical hook-ups for small RVs or trailers.

Longboards have generally been the call for racing at Lake Lanier but all are welcome. Foilers have made an impressive showing but, so far, lake conditions have put the podium out of reach. Konas or any one design class with 5 or more entries will get a separate start, and be scored as a separate trophy group. Watch the forecast and pack some little stuff as you see fit... it can be a lot of fun!

OBX Spring Get-Away 2021

NJ Trip Summer 2021

Made a trip to NJ to visit family late July into early August. Was able to get a couple of good days windsurfing on the bay. First day was outstanding 6.0/85 L and the second was good 7.5/115 L. Also got to try wing foiling for the first time in salt water, both in the bay and the ocean. The ocean was definitely intimidating even though the swell was very small. With a side-off wind(more off than side) the wind became quite a bit stronger the further offshore you went. There was also a small wind swell from the north that wasn't noticeable from the beach that made heading south challenging due to increased likelihood of breaching. In total, I winged 2 days on the bay and 2 days on the ocean. Also got out kayaking a few times and a couple of days surfing. Overall it was a good trip.

Costa Rica 2021

In April, 2021 Barrett & Peggy traveled to Costa Rica, including a four-day stop to windsurf at Lake Arenal. After being postponed for over a year due to the COVID Pandemic, we were really looking forward to the trip. Lake Arenal is on a continental divide between the Atlantic and Pacific where wind funnels through a low point in the mountains. The result is epic conditions for windsurfing on Lake Arenal from December into May. Water temperature averages 72ºF throughout the year.
