WIND DELIRIUM

WIND DELIRIUM

A new article was just published in a medical journal regarding a newly diagnosed mental disease that might affect a few of our friends. It has been named the Wind Delirium Syndrome. Here are a few of the most noticeable symptoms:

Where's the Wind?

-Difficulty concentrating; The subject is constantly stopping any activity to check windline, wind-related websites, weather forecasts, etc.

-Kiteboarding fixation; The subject can only talk about kiteboarding, everything is related to kiteboarding, he will most likely try to sell you some equipment or drag you to the beach, or even forward you all his favorite websites, pictures and videos.

Under the Influence!

-Weather focus; The subject looks at wind reports and graphics and weather forecasts for hours, as if it was a TV set and comments about the changes and his personal prediction on numerous kiteboarding forums.

Cross-training activities; The subject will set up a kitebar trapeze in your local park, will pump up every mattress, bellyboat, kite, air furniture and beach ball he will find. If the subject is trespassing and inflating your belongings he can easily be distracted by telling him to check the wind at the local beach.

Work search; The subject may actually talk about finding some work, he will mostly look for a high paying job with flexible hours, and requiring some traveling in warm tropical windy locations.

Absence of reality; The subject will drive to his favorite kite spot on non-wind days, change into a wet-suit, inflate all his kites and try to self launch. Do not approach the kiteboarder in this situation, he could be frustrated and prone to throwing his gear around.

Religion obsession; The subject will contact his local priest regarding the lack of wind and God's involvement in it. Once again, do not get involved in this conversation.

Absenteeism; The subject's non-kiting friends will think that he goes away every summer because they never see him for 5 months of the year. Do not try to contact him, he will most likely try to sell you some equipment or drag you to the beach, or even forward you all his favorite websites, pictures and videos.

Planning; The subject is not capable to do any advanced planning because everything is wind-dependent.

Wind Delirium Syndrome is still a relatively new disease, if you want to help, contact your local kiteboarding association and join in.
