Who's going Fri and Sat

At least 2 of us are planning on kiting from Old Federal on Friday afternoon around 3:30 or 4pm pending conditions. We'll plan on being back there around 10 - 11 am on Saturday if the wind holds out. We'd love some company. Please let me know if you'd like to meet there.

Old Federal Day Use (not the campground). Directions same as to LLSC (see places to sail). You make a right just before (iirc) the llsc entrance. The park is at the back of the bay which has Sunrise Cove Marina on the N., next bay up from LLSC, 2 up from Aqualand.

Again, see article about Chief Vann. Old Federal is named after the Federal Highway which ran from the edge of GA and the US into the Cherokee Nation just across the Chattahoochee around 1820 or so. It ran all the way into Tenn. Chief Vann helped negotiate the treaty to allow the road and was given the right to build a tavern and inn just on the other side of the river. Andrew Jackson ignored the US Supreme Court and a binding treaty and took over the Cherokee Nation, after gold was discovered in Dahlonega. The takeover led to the infamous Trail of Tears. (I guess I've been dying to share this all along).

Story sound good! Is there enough space to set up and lauch the kite (trees). Do you have to be an expert kiter at that location?

There is a grass shore with only one tree ( that i wish that wasnt there) easly aviodabe if someone was to help you launch . A self launch is not impossible but i wouldnt recommend it.
the grass ends with a one meter height step down into the water that is shallow for at least 10 meters so you can walk inside the water if you wanted and thats what i do, basically to avoid the turbulent wind that might stall the kite and make it luft down into the water as what happened to me once.
or you can start from the water side standing , and have someone hold the kite on the shore.
if you are not an expert kiter you would most probably be blown downwind and if you're not prepared for that i could be a problem, but there are many alternatives where to land. especially with a boat.

See U
