Wed 5/20

There's a chance for some North East wind today. I hope to sail today, probably Van Pugh.

See you then. It's a little dreary this morning.

Edit: forecast for later today looks decent. This should be fun.

I am interested and was thinking VT. Is NE better at VP or about the same as VT?

If you sail at Van Pugh, I hope to join you later in the afternoon.

I think NE is side off at VT and has to come over the trees and hill, so i like VP better on NE.  I think East wind is OK at VT and VP.  If there is any S in it (SE), VP is no good and VT is the call.

But we debate this every time it's East.

AND VP is closer for me although sometimes I'll drive to VT if that's where everyones going..

VP live report: empty parking lot, no white caps but feeling decent breeze at the shore. I can't make 5.2 work (even if it's gonna come up!) but in between 6.4 and 7.6 for me.

Re: Wed 5/20

My apologies to Howard who, unlike me yesterday, noticed that the forecast for today had improved markedly. Today was a total surprise to me as was the rain yesterday evening since I left Van Pugh under blue skies and saw lightning three hours later.

5.4 today which was fun 90% of the time. Crashed a few times trying to duck and 360 but my best crashes were when I sailed with Gene. We somehow jinxed each other and both blew up a couple of times within a couple of minutes. I think he has a protective force field. Biggrin Barrett joined us.

Edit: Gene has taken me to task for not mentioning Hamdi which I thought was obvious since he had already posted from Van Pugh. But, Gene is correct: since reading comprehension is not always the strong suite of the average windsurfer, I should have mentioned it. Lol Indeed, Hamdi was there today and was making marvelous progress. His big wing is a wonder to behold as it gently hovers over the water.

Re: Wed 5/20

I arrived at Van Pugh as Hamdi & William were calling it quits. Normally East wind dies in the afternoon, but after a lull it picked back up & I had a great time out in the channel sailing my 122 liter board with a fin.

Just as I came in to shore, about 5PM, Ed arrived and rigged his 9.5m sail.

My Moses foil arrived, but the mast didn't fit into my board's fin box. Thanks to William for carefully measuring & sanding the top of the mast. My next step is to assemble the parts and be ready to take it out on the water the next time we have a light-wind day.

Hamdi and Langdon have both progressed amazing well considering what little time they have been windsurfing in general. Both of them were foiling circles around me the other day.

Thanks Alan. I don't know about me doing circles around you though. I am having some longer flights and certainly fun but I think I am a long ways from having the kind of sail and board handling skills that you and other experienced sailors have. Particularly progress from here on (eg. Jibes and such) would be quite slow for me I think - case in point: while you all are practicing getting your in the air jibes, I am working on basics of on the water ones!

Webguy, I keep messing up quotes when I try to shorten them, don't I? Thanks for fixing. As evidence suggests, sailing and foiling are not the only things I need a lot to catch up with experienced folks - digital technology is also on the list. Need tutoring & tips on that as well. ?
