Tybee Island

Had a good time at Tybee.
Joe O Leary was kind enough to direct me where to sail at depending on conditions and join me on the water Wednesday afternoon.
On this trip (S / SSE) I launched just south of the pier.
It cost $30 to park at the pier parking lot for the time I was there (10am -8pm). There is some grass next to the sidewalk tp rig on and a rinse tower to wash gear off when finished.
Water was deep enough to foil about 30 yards out.
I did not strike bottom anywhere between the rock jetty and the pier.

Shore break was not bad and I had no trouble getting the entire kit to and from the water .

Joe showed me a place (Tybee Knoll) at the North end of the island where he sails often (W, NW, NE,E)

I did not have any trouble with sharks or rays.
Joe says that sharks are not an issue until you are a long way out (10miles).
Shuffle your feet same as Hatteras for the rays.

It would be great to give Joe some sailing company at least once a year.

Plus he knows where good restaurants are.

Yes,
I parked in front of Fannies.
( that is where most of the grass was)

Was there a cut through the dunes there or did you have to walk your gear all the way to the end of the parking lot.

I'd like to go back and give it another try sometime. I've only windsurfed there once back in the late 80's and it was a far from enjoyable experience.

I don't know of any other place that charges you to park at the beach with the exception of Jersey shore.

Lots and lots of places in Florida.Cocoa Beach, Fred Howard Park and St. Pete Beach to name a few that i've surfed/windsurfed from. Wrightsville in NC, too.

But, Langdon was a thirsty dude. He may have minded the thirty but, darn it, he was going windsurfing! Biggrin

I did not mind the $30,
Hamburgers, Pizza, Nachos, ice cold beverages
AND bathrooms were a <3 min walk from where I came ashore.

Definitely more wind than Lanier and tbey have these things called rollers and waves there...

I know some of y'all are thinking "we have waves on Lanier" . No...no we do not, we have chop on Lanier.

Even if there was a chance to get a wind induced roller an oversized watercraft would pass by repeatedly and take care of that

I stand corrected. Hungry and thirsty. Biggrin

Honestly, if someone sold hot coffee and snacks in the parking lot of Van Pugh during the season, I'd go friggin' broke.
