Thursday 12/7 Old Federal

Looks like Thursday is shaping up for some good cold weather sailing. Windguru is saying 20 from midday until it drops below 40 late afternoon. I'm in if it happens. Anyone care to join me?

Mel,

You going for the wind or the cold? (Of course, they seem to go hand in hand). I'm afraid I'll have to sit this one out. I'll have to w*&#rk.

Alan,

I hope to be at Van Pugh, if the forecast holds, it's going to be alittle chilly.

Statement as of 9:25 PM EST on December 06, 2006

A Wind Advisory remains in effect from 12 PM to 8 PM EST
Thursday for north and parts of central Georgia.

A cold front will move across north and central Georgia early on
Thursday. Strong winds will increase behind this front for Thursday
afternoon. Winds of 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph can be expected
for some areas... especially over north Georgia.

A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of 20 to 35 mph or
wind gusts of at least 35 mph are expected. Winds this strong can
make driving difficult... especially for high profile vehicles.
Use extra caution.

Below is it what they saw today at Rooster Rock while i sailed about 15-20 miles up river at Stevenson on a 4.7 it was 25-35mph.
Pressure Reports
6:05 pm update
Portland-Dalles:
East .26 decreasing

"Went to Roosters and watched the show with John. It's probably been
windier there sometime (I'm told a gust over 100 mph was registered
near there once), but I've not seen it. Shore to shore spindrift
sometimes rising higher than the channel marker tripod (20+ feet?).

Genuinely big, beautiful swell rolling down the river. Neat to see,
but not sail obviously. Even walking in the parking lot was
difficult... and forget about the stairs. Sky overcast and air cold.
County sheriff came by to ask if we were really crazy enough to try
sailing"

At 6 AM the gradient between PDX and The Dalles is .20 hg and
decreasing. Stevenson was averaging 33 and Troutdale 28 mph out of the
east.
The Temp. is usually around 33 in The Dalles and 39 in Portland(PDX)
High pressure east WA and OR

there has been an air stagnation warning all week for our area.

the water temp at Bonneville and it's currently 44F/6.5C
as of noon yesterday. This is a couple degrees colder than average for
this time of year.

Minimum annual average water temp is 39F/4.0C which occurs at the end
of January.
