Tarifa

Hey I am going to Tarifa Spain during Christmas vacation, 2005. Anyone out there who has gone or knows where to go, what to do, who to rent from, sights to see, landmarks, night life, how to get there, best beaches, or any information at all, please reply. What about the Canary Islands? Are they nearby? How to get there?

I'd post on a newsgroup like rec.windsurfing. I seem to remember someone having vacationed there (maybe Joe Morgan?) but most of us go someplace closer - like Hatteras, Aruba or the Gorge. Margarita is fun for the holidays, too, according to Ed and Jackie, who've been several times.

oops - sounds like I was trying to talk you out of going. not my intention at all, just that there won't be a ton of us posting (thanks, nir) and trying to suggest good alternatives.

Tarifa

We were in Tarifa for 3 weeks about 3 years ago.
It can be really nice from every aspect: good sailing, real good nightlife and real good food. Kiting is some of the best, due to very constant conditions and very wide beach.
Where are you staying, do you have a car. The best surfing spot is about 5 k outside of Taifa.
If you have time you can go to Gibraltar, see the rock, go to Marokko or just towards Cadiz, where you will go through some of the best Sherry producing areas. Just stop to visit a bodega on the road, sample as much as you like and buy a few bottle for little $$.
Nightlife is great, starts not before 10 pm. Sample Tappas, find someone who has been araound for a while and ask for best places.
This place can be more than fun Biggrin
