Sunday - Taking a flyer down to West Point

All kitted out for a bike ride and the leaves outside started rustling. I'm going to take a flyer down to West Point - west side of the dam - if anyone else is up for a fruitless 80 min. drive.

Is that the little parking lot north of the dam?

It was blowing when I got there. As I was getting the gear out of the van, it began to blow more. Should I rig a 5.4 and go out? No, just switch the fuse on the freerace wing and go out. Switched the fuse. Rigged the sail. Got some lunch remembering that Chris said (and I agreed) that conditions would improve as the day went on. A bit of rain came in and killed the wind.

Finally took a look at the radar and I was smack in the middle of a narrow band of showers moving NW. Even when the rain let up, there was more on the way from Columbus and there were rumbling noises. The wind was dead so I faced reality and packed up. As I was throwing the sail bag in the car, the breeze started to fill back in... Dash 1

It all worked out okay since leaving early let me pick up Lisa who was coming in at the airport and we got to spend the evening together. There was almost no boat traffic at all down there as in I saw maybe 8 boats the whole time. The lake is all the way up so launching would be super easy.

It didn't work out but it still was very pretty down there. Yes, I was at the park just west of the dam.

Don’t feel bad, I went down there Friday before I picked Josh up. There was a nice East breeze building but I left the Equipe mast base at home. Wrote it off as a scouting trip.
I like that little park, No restrooms or picnic tables but shady and a nice flat grassy rigging area and easy launch.
