Sunday Oct 8

Due to Hurricane Nate, Sunday may end up being very windy...(and maybe rainy).
Looks like ESE and then later SE wind. Trying to think of best place to go if it pans out. VP and V Tavern would work, but I'm looking at the lake map, and Shady Grove park. There is a beach, parking and it seems to have the longest stretch of water in front of it on a SE. And the wind would be side shore instead of getting pushed into the shore.

Anyone try this site before? Any issues with parking windsurfing trailers there?

thanks

Marek

Shady Grove is camping only, afaik - http://parks.forsythco.com/Parks-and-Facilities/Shady-Grove-Campground#4266346-daily-fees

Tidwell might spin your wheels. West Bank is "no trailers". Only problem with Tidwell is that you usually need to dump your gear on the grass by the boat launch and then park out of the way of the boat trailers. A few minutes closer to Atlanta than Vanns but lacks the view.

Interesting....
Because they have a boat launch and car/trailer parking at the beach/launch.
I'll call them to see what the deal is.

Shady Grove used to be open for day use, but I believe that for quite some time it has been limited to camping, as is the case with a number of other spots. I have tried a few times to get in, but no success. It's probably worth checking though. Vann's Tav is probably the best spot on the lake for SE. If I'm right, somewhere around 100-110 is side shore, and 90 and above is side off. Tidwell doesn't have a very long fetch for ESE or SE, but is the longest on the lake for pure E.

"Shady Grove Park and Campground

Shady Grove Park is located on the southwest side of Lake Lanier. Directions - from GA 400 take exit 16 (Pilgram Mill) east towards Lake Lanier, take a left on Holtzclaw Rd, take a right on Chatahoochee Rd, take a right on Shady Grove Rd, take a left on Shadburn Ferry Rd and it will dead end into the park. The park offers many amenities including a beach. A listing of what the park has to offer as well as pictures and information are listed below. Shady Grove Campground is a Forsyth County park. Call 770-205-6849 for more information. "

I'm not sure Sunday is worth betting on though - rain is likely and t-storms are also in the mix.

Called them...Correct, only for Campers.
I guess one could just pay the camping fee...but probably not worth it given the rain. Still hoping to get out for a bit though, if there is wind and some break in rain I'll try V Tavern.
