I have a dirt bike riding friend who just went to the Charleston area to ride and go to the beach. I told him to go to Station 29 and check out the windsurfers. When he came back, he told me that Station 29 was closed to all water activities including swimming and windsurfing because there have been several drowning due to the swift tidal currents. He said 29 was posted and there is a $500 fine for entering the water. I am pretty sure he went to the right place because he found the marker Station 29. Does anybody else konw of this closing. I would sure hate to make a trip all the way down there and find I was unable to sail. ???

I just got back from there, I sailed friday afternoon and today at St 29. There were plenty of people in and around the water both days, including a few windsurfers. The current was rather strong, but didn't seem very life-threatening. There were no notices of any kind posted that I say. Wonder what's up?
That's just what I heard. I am glad 29 is open. I like that place. Thanks for letting me know.

Wonder if he showed up on a "red" flag day? Do they have those in S.C.?
There must have been some confusion as to the name Station 29. He told me that the area was posted with signs that stated $500 fine for entering the water, etc. Well, at least I know now.

I bet he was talking about Breach inlet ... it is just down the coast ..maybe 500 yards to the left when standing on the beach and looking at the water. Breach inlet has always been a dangerous place. I grew up in Hanahan and used to jump off of the Breach inlet bridge ... early 70's. They restricted the area around the late 70's ..early 80's. My family still lives in the area. Curious ... I'll call them to see what they know.
See ya on the water ..
