Soul Surfing Tuesday

Today I remember why I got hooked on this sport of windsurfing. It was a typical Van Pugh east wind kind of day, yet different. The wind was on and off and gusty, that's normal. But today when I got there, there was nobody else to be seen. The wind looked light even though Gilmer was calling 12- 20 at 90-120', but I was there, ready with my 150L board and my Ezzy 6.5 Lion. So why not go out and get wet? Who knows maybe the wind will fill in; WindFinder said it would and they are never wrong. I trolled around for 15 minutes not getting on plane, then the waves of wind started to come in like set waves in the ocean. Not only was I getting on plane, I started getting overpowered for the first time with my Ezzy. It was like speed trials with smooth water. Go like hell for five minutes, then take a break and wait for the next round. Damn I was the fastest one out there, I felt like the King of the Lake (yeah, I was the only one out there, not even a boat). This went on for over an hour. In between sets I went in and got my GPS to do a speed check. Though I did not break any records, I did record a top speed on nearly 29 mph which felt pretty fast on 150 liters. As the sky got darker and the lights at Aqualand and VP came on, the winds continued to tempt me to do another run. I obliged for a few more runs before calling it a day with a big smile on my face and that feeling of total satisfaction with the session.
I definitely got that stoke surfers call Soul Surfing,,,,yeah it was that good!

Jim, William & I sailed late at Vanns Tavern. Delozier stopped by, but unfortunately didn't bring his wetsuit. Scott described it well. What a sweet day!!!

I was rigged right with a 7.0m & 110L board, changing to 146 Liter as darkness began to fall.

Chris, I can't wait to see you master the foil. Yesterday's conditions were perfect for a trial run.

There appears to be a Bible in the Foil Board picture. Is it open to the 23 Psalm? "Yea though I foil through the valley of death..."

I was out consuming the wind yesterday as well. Here's my day in 167 seconds.

BTW Chris - if you sail with that thing you void the warranty on that board.......
