Saturday field trip - WP

Langdon and I are planning to go down to West Point tomorrow to chase a bit of warm breeze. Should get there around 1. If it bombs, there are some good bbq places in La Grange, iirc. Current forecast is S/SE so may launch from west side of the dam.

What forecasts are you guys looking at? Iwindsurf and NOAA both show easterlies for g-ville and Iwindsurf shows a weak easterly for LaGrange as well. NOAA says Lagrange will be SW at 5mph. The various Iwindsurf models for Lagrange seem in general agreement, though one does show 11 S tomorrow.

oops, the last runs have backed off. Even this morning, it was S at 12-18 on (iirc) the Euro. We'll see how the day goes. I can either do 49 degrees early in the morning or 72 in the afternoon. If it's blowing 9, I'm still good to go. Have I mentioned that I foil? Biggrin

Edit, windmapper was still just showing 12+ from the S. Not sure where they got that one from. I think they usually do GFS.

Barring some extreme turn of event, both Langdon and I are in. It'll be warm and a change of scenery will be nice. Looks like we'll most likely be on the west side of the dam.

We have missed a lot of good days this year because the models have been too pessimistic so good luck with it. Hope it works out. I may do the rat in cage thing in 49 degree early morning deal again. (I would say on dry land but the would be off. Wet land would be more accurate.) Forecast is iffy though.

Anyway - rat in a cage (or maze) seems pretty appropriate given this GPS track.

Yeah, worth the trip. Got some breeze early on and got a handful of flights. Sun came out and killed the wind for about an hour and then around four, the breeze slowly built so I was able to fly for about an hour. It was a bit light for Langdon but he enjoyed the sunshine and 70 degrees. Almost no boat traffic and the water is at least 10 degrees warmer than Lanier (thanks, Atlanta Water System! Biggrin old joke)

Launched just west of the dam. Nice grassy rigging, easy walk to the water. Langdon and I had mid 7 sails - he had his Go/Slingshot while I was on Tillo board and foil. Grabbed good, classic barbecue on the way home.

Looks like a good spot and you found it just in time. Before long their will be no parking lots at the usual Lanier and Toona launches. Toona went from 827 6 days ago to now 842 (full+ 2 foot). The chart in the other thread is showing Lanier reaching to 1076. Lake levels are going parabolic. Remember 2007 when we had the draught of the century? It amazing how much circumstances have changed. Another week or so of rain like this week and who knows where the water would be going.
