Saturday 4/29 - Athens Park

Windguru is claiming Easterly 15mph most of the day with clouds.... Always good to get started early on an easterly. Anyone up for a little kiting?

Hi Mel,

I might make it out there on saturday. What time are you planning to go?

The wind is supposed to start blowing as early as 7am. I'll try and make it to Vann's Tavern around 8:30am. We can meet up and do a drop off at Athens Park (mile and a half away). Parking there is a big issue but we can work something out and leave most cars at Vanns.

I'm pretty sure that Emilio is in and if Khalil is in town he will be too baring a tennis match. Emilio? Khalil? Chris is on vacation.

I don't see Athen's park on the map. I guess it is farther from 400? Is the turn well marked? Do you ride downwind to Vanns?

I may be able to come check it out early.

Kitters and wanna-be kitters of ATL...
TOMORROW seems to be a good day to kite. I will be getting there EARLY... I MEAN EARLY!!! to take advantage of the wind. Probable around 7:30 am, I will be there rigging up stuff. If anybody is interested in car pool given the $3/Gal, please let me know. I will be happy to split gas cost!. Unfortunatelly for me I have to be back in ATL by 13:00, therefore my early morning rush.

Athen's park is almost all the way to Van's tavern. When you are close to get to Van's Tavern (a mile or so), you will see a dry boat storage on your left hand. After the boat storage, the street forks out to the left. This is the road you want to take. Follow it to the end. You will arrive to Athen's Park which is closed and have no access. You need to park and start walking into the launching sites. Beware that police tow cars parked in Athen, so Mel's suggestion to bring the cars back to Van's Tavern makes all the sense.

I will be taking with me all SONICS for Demo. If you know how to kite, please join in.

Rgds,

Emilio.

Emilio,

Bring a 147 cm board with you. I'd like to try a little bigger board than my Litewave 125.

thanks,

I'll see you guys there tomorrow morning... My girlfriend is probably going to come as well so she can drive us back to Athens from Vann's Tavern after dropping off the cars... We'll probably be there around 8:15-8:30.

Cheers,

Fridge

Looks like the wind isn't going to materialize until more like 10am now. We should still get a couple of good hours in before it shuts off.

Emilio, Fridge, or Mel need to share how it was! There was wind all day - at least until I left ~1 pm - from very early. They were all having a blast kiting.

As Richard says, it was a blast. Emilio was cranking from the first minute there. Guy can pump up a kite and get on the water faster than anyone I've seen... Emilio Fridge and I all had great sessions on the 11m2 Sonic. Emilio started out on the 14 and was almost to LanMar before he decided to head back to Vanns. What a change from the past 5 years I've been attempting to kite on Lanier.

Not only did I not get tea bagged and drug downwind but I never even got pulled off of my edge. The nervousness that usually accompanies my sessions was gone after a half hour of back and forth. I was able to start thinking about carving turns, doing bunny hops of the chop and jibing down the face of wind swells. What a pleasure. I might even jump on purpose in the near future... Can't explain the stoke, it's just an increadible feeling of weightlessness cruising across chop with the ability to carve up or down depending on your pleasure...

It's also cool to have about 7 guys intersted with 5 of us out in one day. Poor Martin was a reminder of what happens on one of the older technology kites. I think he still had fun.

See you all out there the next time the wind blows! Smile
