Sailor Busted for Speeding

Yet another reason why windsurfing is better in Atlanta that Maui. We have no speed limits:

http://forums.gaastra.com/bepartofit/ubb/Forum1/HTML/004305.html

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dorota Staszewska yesterday was pulled over by the Hawaii State Police for exceeding the speed limit in waters off Kihie Maui. Dorota, who's blatant disregard for rules and regulations was stopped by 3 police officiers and lectured for 1/2 hour during her training session on Maui. Dorota who first thought it was a joke, continued to sail on her merry way, but soon realized they were serious, as the yelled at the top of there lungs. "PUT YOUR SAIL DOWN IMMEDIATELY, PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR". Dorota then realized she needs some of her charm to talk her way out of this one.

Dorota in shock afterwards commented-
"I didn't realise I was doing anything wrong, I usually am free to take advantage of my board speed most of the time, but this time was different".

Assisted by Phil McGain, who currently holds certified "A" water license in Hawaii, which enables him to exceed all speed limits at anytime had this to say- "Dorota needs to apply for this special license next time she comes to Hawaii, it's really a pain to have to deal with these guys everytime you want to train".

I kept reading the thread waiting for the punch line. There wasn't one. Plus they gave her 48 hours to leave Hawaii.

Apparently she was sailing near whales which are protected.

I read the thread too, and it makes me wonder about the details of her altercation with the police. Telling her to leave the whales alone is one thing, but telling her she has to leave the STATE? It sounds as though she was warned, and then they pulled her over again. It's too bad she didn't take them seriously the first time. I would like to have been able to hear her interview with the Polish radio regarding the incident.

In any case, I'm hoping that she decides to continue her training here in North Georgia where the laws of windsurfing are more reasonable; in fact, if she needs a place to stay, I have plenty of room at my place.

For those of us who don't get to see enough beautiful woman on windsurfers, you can see more of Dorota here:

Ciao!

Oh, BTW, Dorota is an excellent windsurfer; she placed first, ahead of many of the men in the Pro Ladies Formula division at Calema last month.

Now I wish I had been paying more attention to the 'racing' while I was there!

This has little to do with Dorata but once when I was in Maui I rented a Hobie cat 16 in the Kanapali area and before I could go out I had to sign a statment that said I would not go any closer than 150 feet from any whale. Problem was that whales tend to surface any place they please. I signed the statement anyway and had a great afternoon of fast sailing.

I wonder where I can get my car painted like her's with a cool looking windsurf board and sail on it?
