Sailing Report for Sunday

Arrived at VP at 11 am only one picnic table left. I secured that like the last piece of toilet paper on a camping trip.

It took 40 minutes to get the jet skis and Hobie Cat launched. The wait in the launch line was 5 cars deep and you should see how these people act.

Great day. Sunny. Kids rigged the Hobie by themselves and sailed it all day. Not much use of the jet skis. Brittany and Sara were on the Hobie and were approched for pick up by boys on three occassions. Boat looks great, kids look great, all is well.

5 pm time to get the boats out of the water. At 5 pm the line for the boat ramp is 6 deep. Took 45 minutes to get the Hobie and jet skis our of the water. This time it was like being on I-285 in stop still traffic on a hot summer Friday at rush hour.

I will have to rethink this VP launch place. I really don't know what other choices I have except a different lake.

I was thinking of going to the lake on July 4th but I have decided to just go in the back yard and did a hole in the dirt.

The problem is that there are very few boat ramps open. Its the same story at Tidwell - which has one of three ramps open. Its often 8-10 cars deep for a lauch. Takes them probably 30-45 minutes. (Not that I care much. Since I don't have to wait in line to for windsurfing.)

What happens in a black hole stays in a black hole.

Lanier Boat Ramps

Here is the Army Corp website link regarding boat ramps that are open:

The lake is going down steadily so I expect some ramps that are open to get shallower or be closed..... :!:

Peelskid,

I used cat trax to launch my 18 at many sites that could not be accessed with a trailer. If you had a set, you could even ask DNR if you could use a closed ramp since you would not be using a car to launch. Just a thought.

JeffK, Do you think that some day you might loan or let me rent your cat trax if I go to the beach?

David, you may get in touch with the guys at St. Simons surf sailors club, or (John Lang aka lowcountryP there are over 100 hobie cats there and I'm sure some cat trax for sale cheap.

Peelskid,

My 18 is now just a fond memory. A 14 being lighter, some of the guys used to put fatter tires on their trailers and they could drag them over the sand except in the very deep stuff. Some had home-made rigs that worked better then the trax. Maybe you could find a drawing on the net.
