Sail Numbers

So, now that I'm getting my very own official sail number, are there any suggestions on the best ways to mark my sails? Should I just use the magic maker technique? I'm not even sure if there's an official size, spacing, font, etc.

I have existing magic marker letters on my sails for some unofficial numbers. I seem to recall someone saying acetone could be used to remove them, as long as I don't get it near the sail seams. Is that true?

Also, my 7.5 has very nice vinyl numbers from a previous owner that I need to cover up or remove. Any thoughts on that?

FWIW Karen at US Windsurfing confirmed that having my very own numbers will make much faster and "the guys you are racing against will cower in fear and fall at all the marks"

Re: Sail Numbers

Acetone will take magic marker off monofilm... not sure abut harm to stitching or Dacron. I don't think it will hurt either but would probably fade/discolor Dacron.
iirc, 10" is the prescribed height for numbers, but it doesn't really matter– just so it's readable at a distance.
