One year in - how's the foiling?

So, for the foiling class of 2019 - sparked by the Black Friday sales last year - how has the year treated you? How is it one year in?

It was a good year. I progressed (well, I think I did anyway) much faster with foiling than with conventional windsurfing. While I was getting a lot of time on the water with the longboard and the AHD77 there was just not enough sessions with adequate wind for planing and learning what to do in higher winds. With windsurfing, I used to be scared when I saw a gust coming now with foiling its great because I can turn it into a huge gain going upwind.

For me, It was also a good investment. While expensive at first, in the long run I needed a lot less gear than conventional windsurfing. And as some of you can attest to, for most of this year I was a one board and one sail kind of foiler. Even now I am pretty much a one board and two sails kind of foiler.
Those two sails cover a huge wind range from ~10mph to ~ 25mph winds and while I want another sail I really do not need another sail to foil in the Southeast.

No regrets and a lot of smiles.

I didn't respond earlier since i don't quite consider myself properly in the 'foiling class' yet. Got the equipment (no big feast other than having a cc to charge to) and have been what I think amounts to putzing around with it. I would be the first to admit that I am not going through a reasonable maturing process in windsurfing in general and probably should have better mastered basics of regular windsurfing before jumping into foiling but oh well...hopefully it will come together in a year or two without serious damage to myself or pain to others around me in the meantime. ??

Progressing slowly. I enjoy lighter wind foiling and the fun it has brought back to the 10-15 days but I'm a bit nervous when the wind picks up. Still rather be on a fin on the 15-25 days
I have learned that cam sails steady wind and warm water make it much easier to learn.
The foil you start out with will make a big difference too. Start out with a lower aspect thicker cord foil if possible.

Happy foiling!
