Newcomer to Atlanta

Hello, I have just relocated from Rochester, NY to Atlanta (Alpharetta). I have been on the Atlanta Boardsailing Website and found it very informative. I would love to get some shortboarding sailing in during this hurricane. The forcast looks good so far, I just do not know where to go on Lanier. (assuming it makes it up here) If anyone can help please let me know. I would also like to talk about the sailing scene here in Atlanta. Upstate NY was blessed with some intense sailing (Lake Ontario and Lake Erie). Feel free to call me if the forcast looks solid and you could point me to the right place to sail. Thanks in advance.

Trey,

Welcome to Atlanta.

Charleston SC has a big kiting scene. Good conditions for it as well. Check this web site on "places to sail" for Charlestong details. Its about 5.5 hour drive.

Atlanta area is not that great due to lack of beach space to launch your kite.

BTW, the ATV that you sold me last year is great, too bad I don't get to use it more often. Are you still windsurfing at all, or just kiting now?

Hope you get some time on the water this weekend.

Trey, meant to respond earlier. See the other post about where to sail. We have a lot of places one can sail from but when it's windy, there are just a handful that we use in Atlanta: Vann's Tavern, Van Pugh, maybe Tidwell on Lanier; Galts on Allatoona. Of course, West Point Lake, Clarks Hill and Lake Juliette see some action, too, if they are closer or the wind is more area specific.

Trey, you will need a boat , or a jetski to enjoy kiting on lanier , Ive tried many locations , the trees create too much turbulence, and wind shadowing , but with a boat its easier to launch from one of the small islands at lanier, and there should be someone watching you all the time or following you by boat or jetski ....I think Van pugh will be good for tomorrow ,I ll be going out hopefully we can get some kiting .

Trey,

OK, I just looked at your post again and its clear I got your questions mixed up with another post asking where to kite. I just came back from Europe and lack of sleep is affecting my brain. (Although I still like the ATV 258:)

Webguy is on top of things and managed to correct my response in a very diplomatic way...thanks William.

In any case, hope we all get some this weekend.
