New forum category for local kiters

We've split off a forum for the local kiters for kite-specific posts. I've moved a couple of recent posts, too. This is not meant to exclude kiters from general discussions but to facilitate looking up and searching for old posts. As the sport is relatively young in Atlanta (although folks were trying it out back in '98), we encourage all kiters to practice best methods. The waters around Atlanta are generally crowded and your actions determine your future access.

i am kiting successfully at clark hill since patrick bought a vintage (old) boat. water is still very high so we boat out to a perfect island with a perfect beach for launching. we don't have near the boat traffic that you guys in atlanta have, as well. anyone wanting to join us just give us a call.

our little boy got in kiteboarding magazine last fall for the youngest documented kiteboarder at age 4. check it out if you see the mag.

Renee,
I am interested to know the location of Clark Hill. I live near LAnier, and would like to come kite there. Whaat are the local conditons like, and what kite sizes do you use? Thanks.

Clark Hill lake is very close to Augusta about 2 hours east of Atlanta. The lake is bigger than Lanier with a ton less boat traffic. It also sets up way better for SW and W winds than Lanier (at least for windsurfing). The conditions are pretty much like Lanier wind wise -- gusty, crappy frontal based stuff.

I don't much about kites, but I did notice that most kiters were getting hammered today in Hatteras on small stuff ( I think 8-9m kites were the norm). Most windsurfers were on 3.8 to 4.5 size sails. Very nice!
