New to atlanta

Hey everyone,

I'm new to atlanta and wanted to know any other sites that the kiteboarders use to find places to go, organized trips to lakes, etc.? I have looked and didn't seem to come up with much so I was going to try and set up a site specificially for kiteboarders around atlanta. Let me know any info you guys have. Thanks.

No need to set up another site. The kiteboarders use this site. Just use the category 'kiting' when creating your messages.

Hi there - I live on the south endo of the lake (tidwell area) and kite often on the lake. Drop me a line and we can take a session together (with jet ski support from the wife or kids) anytime there's good wind.

Robbie,

Where can I find forecasts that predict winds? Do you read surface maps to try and predict winds when they tell you the forecast on the news? A coldfront coming through means big winds in atlanta? I read the info on when it blows in atlanta, so I understand the seasons that its windy, but day to day, how do you find out where its blowing and where it WILL be blowing for the weekend? Thanks.

I use the numeric mos thing over there on the left under 'weather'. I also like the gradient represented like the Intellicast page does it:

http://www.intellicast.com/IcastPage/LoadPage.aspx?loc=katl&seg=BoatBeach&prodgrp=Forecasts&product=WINDcast&prodnav=d0_12&pid=none

Randy & William are the real wind info gurus. Also, when in doubt, I just call Gene and ask "Is it windy?"

If you register, you can define what forecast you see under "my weather" including a number of numerical and graphical models. Some have become obsolete since I authored the module so don't get bummed if everything doesn't show up. The last year has been devoted to an educational project.

The virtue of registering and logging in.

Hey, my name is Emilio Cobo, and I run a Kitesurfing operation here in ATL and from time to time in Jekyll Island. I do have a list of people that I send email when we are going to the lake to kite. Please send me your emails and I will include you on the list. Drop me a line to
