I thought I saw that too. Anyway, the dots have now vanished but if they come back (as they often do when the NOAA janitors who prepare the hourly wind forecast change shifts)......
Another disappearance - the wind reports and everything else from KGVL have disappeared from the hourlies and from NOAA 6 day forecast. Also KGVL has disappeared from I-Windsurf's collection of forecasts. The LLSC webcam is also down. So we are flying blind......
The hourly link (below) just says:
The station ID KGVL does not exist in the database.
Still getting mixed forecast this morning. The NWS graph is not showing much, 8 mph but the NWS weather radio is saying SW 10-15. Windmapper is showing 7-14 mph. I vote for 10-15.

KGVL has been offline before. Last it did it, I spent about an hour redoing the pages to show Athens instead and about the time it finished, Gilmer came back online.
This time I'm waiting a bit. Can't imagine an airport that busy will be offline too long.
I windsurf also gets data from the lake, Buford Dam I think.
Not an accurate measure of wind in the channel in my experience- I've compared it on some days that were a good 10-15 and it's showing 5-7.
Is the same voice on the windtalker? Back in the day, he was like a friend.
I've never paid much attention to it for westerlies. For easterlies it does seem pick up winds on the west side of the lake pretty well (Tidwell and MAP). I've seen times when g-ville never gets over 10 while the Buford reading stronger, and the lake is windy. At West Bank Park (near the dam) there is a pretty bad wind shadow to the west, but a pretty good fetch to the east so that may explain it.
Yeah windtalker guy is the same guy but sounds older. He was really happy to hear from me. Said he's worries about getting laid off since no one calls anymore. I invited him to the Christmas party. Says he'd like meet everyone.

Highllight of my day #1 about 40 minutes of foilable wind out of the 90 I spent on the water. It wasn't terribly hot so I didn't really mind waiting for the cycles. So much freakin' fun to take off in about 9-10 and accelerate to warp speed. I love windsurfing in the summertime!
Highlight of my day #2. My inventory of 7.x sails just got more valuable.
At Old Fed, Jim C, Pat P, Chris (friend of Pat who is getting back into the sport) and I mainly slogged around, hung out, and slogging around more. It was still fun, beats working. Also, I moved my mast foot back 2 inches and the boom up 2 inches, but it still seems I actually need wind in order to foil.

Kudos to all for making a day of it even if conditions weren't quite on. Excellent!

Edit: If I run up, it's Van Pugh. I'm tired of the geese, wind shadows and swim rope at Old Fed.

The wind talker still works. 770-532-4687. It's 10 @ 270 right now (10:45am). Don't everybody call at once.
Lawrenceville is probably the closest spot to G-ville

Gail and I just came back from a boat ride in the main channel. Nice steady 12 mph wind from SW. White caps observed.

Turned out to be a perfect day to blow out a panel in my 7.3..........Mere minutes before I might have gotten skyward.
