Monday 4/17 - Old Federal

The forecast calls for lots of wind and warm weather today from the west. Emilio and I are looking at making it up to Old Federal for some late afternoon kiting. Should be there around 3:30pm or 4.

Hi, I am new to Atlanta and looking for places to go kitesurfing. Can you tell me how I can get to Old federal?

Thanks,

Great session with Khalil, Emilio and I on Monday. We were all able to stay upwind on the 14m2 Sonic and a large board. Khalil made it out into the middle of the lake. First time I've ever seen that. He's usually king of the downwinder (he likes going fast). I think Khalil has a kite purchase in his near future judging by the smile he had on his face... Smile

Directions: The surest way is to go to map.google and type in Old Federal Campground, GA. It's up 985. Take a left on Friendship. Right on McEver. Left on JimCrowe and look for signs to the DayPark on your right. We launch from the point on NW to SW winds.

NE to SE is Vann's Tavern on the 400 side of the lake.

Fridge, give me a call to talk about ATL kiting posibilities.

If you review the knowledge section of this forum, and look under: Places to Sail, you will find very good direction to most of ATL lakes, and specifically Lake Lanier sites.

I would recomend Old Federal on westerlies, and Athens Park on Easterlies(the park has been closed, but you can enter and walk to the launching site). The problem with Athens park is that b/c the park is closed, if you leave you car outside the park, it may get towed. Local police patrol the area, and have been know to tow cars in this area. It is much better for kitters to launch here than on Van's Tavern, specially if the wind has any North component.

Rgds,
Emilio.

Thanks for the tips. I might go out there today to check it out. I have my 19.5 but might not be enough for today. Emilio, I'll give you a call sometime.

Cheers,

Fridge
