Monday 10-22 Old Federal

Anyone up for an afternoon session? Looks like we're going to get some kickin conditions. I could likely make it about 4pm or so maybe earlier if the trees are waving hard.... Smile

Good session today 5 guys out great wind advantage to the Gk Sonics.

BTW i saw a modification to the sonic bar at USAkite.com then goto news, this will allow you to trim the kite on the fly much easier.

Just curious, what brand, style and size kites were y'all running? It really was blowing, we ran mainly 5.2 & 4.7 sails.

Hi Gene.

We were ALL in:
Brand: GK (GlobeKites),
Model: Sonics.

This kite model and brand has been really tested in Lanier many times over now, and we now it works like a charm. I am the distributor for GA, so take my advise with a grain of salt. I am pretty sure that any other brand BOW or Hybrid kite will work as well, but why take chances, and not support the local store?!!!!. I also flew for a few minutes a North Rebel hybrid kite that also rules.

The Force is calling on you Gene....

What sizes? My Hatteras Kite class used a 13 meter 5 line C-Kite. What's the difference between a Hybrid and a Bow, (5th line)? AND I'm diffinately for supporting the local storeS.

Gene,

We were flying the 11m Sonics yesterday. I was overpowered only once and it was just a matter of letting go of the bar to regain control. Other than that it was just a matter of adjusting the bar and the height of the kite. Emilio and i both noticed that the hard winds were much easier to handle with the kite above 1:30 vs. down around 2. At 2 it takes longer arms to sheet out especially as you're trying to edge....

Khalil went out on a Caution 12m C kite and had lots of problems with the gusty conditions. It was big enough for the lulls but too big for the gusts since you can't really depower much. He maintained his ground but couldn't make any upwind headway. I know he worked harder and didn't have as much fun as he did once he got out on the Sonic just before sunset...

Very gusty. From blowing sand head high off the exposed clay to just enough to stay powered...

Gene,

Go back to the light. Beware of the force of the Dark Side, it is very strong.

Gene, I am your Father!!!!

"C" kites, are just like the letter "C". Very little ability to depower.
Bow kites, are flatter and resemble a bow (used to throw arrows), lots of depowering capability.
Hybrids are in between. Sonics are Hybrids, so they have the benefits of bows (dumping power by sheeting out), and still lots of power (like "C" kites) by sheeting in.

RGds,
Emilio.

Richard, when are you going to join us for a little kiting? We've been blessed with a bit of wind of late. We're also growing in numbers. Hope to see you out one windy day...

Mel, I do want to get out there - both on a kite and windsurfboard. That morning I watched you guys was perfect. The time available needs to overlap with the wind! :-). Thanks, Richard
