Mobile for Mardi Foi(l) Gras ?

Kirk Ward via the Atlanta Windsurfing FB group has suggested that we consider a pilgrimage to Mobile for their Mardi Gras.

"Mobile will have all kinds of parades starting on Feb. 13th through Feb. 25th this year. https://www.al.com/news/mobile/2019/12/2020-mardi-gras-parade-schedule-for-mobile-area.html"

For you uncultured heathen Biggrin that have never enjoyed a true NOLA Mardi Gras with all the parades this may be a good chance to see something similar in a shorter trip. I've asked him for some foil spot recommendations, too.

FWIW, the middle of Feb is usually when the water temps in Lanier are about 45 degrees so the timing would be pretty good.

The spot for foiling. When I confirm the map pin with Kirk, I'll post it on the wiki

We go to the Pirates cove parking. It is at the Dauphin Island golf course. There is a protected cove with a small cut to get out to the gulf. It gets deep enough for a 90 cm foil about 25 yds off the beach. We have a pretty good group of kite boarders and a few of us windfoilers.

Parking and beach access is free until Memorial day. Beach season, the parking is free but the beach access is $5.00 a person, unless we get there before 8am. Then it's free. I use a kayak dolly to get everything to the beach in one trip.
