Mirlo Beach (Rodanthe, NC), Good bye

Thanks to our buds at the TBC for the heads up. New soundside bridge in Mirlo Beach may limit or end water side access.

Webguy, thanks for the news on plans to build a new soundside bridge in the area of Mirlo Beach. The plus side is that highway 12 South to Rodanthe is less likely to be closed by storm events. The bad news is that sea level is rising and this is an expensive, and temporary fix. See photo taken after 2011 hurricane. It appears that many of the damaged houses in the area have been torn down.

Did anybody actually ever sail there?

We used to. Got pretty shallow so windsurfers moved south. It's right at the edge of the Nature Preserve and kites are banned north of there, iirc. Mostly, it was kiters up there. Still, good memories of Southwind, Capt Bobs and a few houses in Mirlo Beach
