Lots of east next few days

Saturday morning may be tough for me but looks like a bunch of chances from your favorite east spot.

Won't be as windy as the coast but at least I won't be commuting five hours each way every day. Biggrin

I will be going to Vanns Saturday and Sunday... maybe Monday if work permits.
I will try and bring a grill on Sunday and maybe cook some hotdogs and hamburgers

contemplating going saturday - maybe not early, so as to sail some longboard after dark, it being a fullish moon, maybe vancrash somewhere to be ready for early Sunday. Just a thought.

Re: Lots of east next few days

Guys - remember the easterlies die by noon rule*? Or was that just something the old NOAA janitor always forecast?

BTW- I would like to propose the Glen (or is it Glenn) Burns of Channel 2 be awarded the Atlanta Boardsailing Club TV Weatherman of the Year award. Thursday night he forecast that there would be an east wind the following morning, but it would die out by noon. To my knowledge, this is the first time in history that a local TV weatherman actually knew about the easterlies die by noon rule. Most don't even bother with the wind forecast, unless it is coming from Hurricane Zander or something like that.

* And even if it doesn't fishermen, jet skiers and motor boat owners are over their hangovers by then and out on the water.

I am planning on cooking hotdogs and hamburgers tomorrow afternoon at Vanns.

Let me know if you think you are coming so I will know how much to fix

Great day at Galts. 7.5 & Alpha ProRace 220. 6.5 would have been plenty on a shortboard. Practiced upwind/donwind course from beach to sandbar area and back. Broke a fin somehow but have a backup. If anyone has a pointer fin with an a-base they'd like to get rid of let me know.

Great 6.0 meter wind at Vanns Tavern today. Six windsurfers & four kiters arrived for the morning session. Kudos to Langdon for hosting a picnic & grilling hot dogs & hamburgers.

Sorry to have missed this. Debi & I were at Shell Point for the Endless Simmer regatta. Tough conditions on Saturday– light wind, weeds galore and freakin' biting flies Shok . Honkin' but gusty Sunday with wind from 7.0 to 4.5 made figure 8 slalom racing a challenge for foilboy who struggled to remember how to do it. BUT, Debi was 1st Novice Woman & 2nd overall... and loved it!

Franco-Atlanta garçon, Eric Robine, made a good showing too, pictured here ripping it up on Sunday: (photo by Baber)

FYI guys, This is from just now and shows where to look for the best sailing spots on the lake. I've seen this disparity in wind strength before on IW. Either it's some micro meteorology going on, or the wind meter is not calibrated.

The instrument at LLSC (the iW station) is pretty useless in any kind of east wind. It's in the lee of some big trees and esp NE wind (coming over the hill and trees). The anemometer at Gilmer is also a little sheltered in an east but not like LLSC. Is the other one on the dam?

Sounds like a great time to charter a Kona... Biggrin

I think the tally yesterday at Vann's was nine windsurfers and five kiters spread out over the day.

Re: Lots of east next few days

There were four windsurfers and zero kiters at Galt's Ferry on Sunday. Fast Eddie B., two others and myself. Sails ranged from 5.0 to 7.5.

I won't need the Kona as Eddie graciously gave me a pointer fin to use with the Alpha. It will be my new not-so-secret weapon.

Anybody going today... hoping the east will hold on for an early afternoon session at Van Pugh.
