Yep, good luck Emilio. I am curious to know how many kitesufers there actually are in the the Atlanta area. I have always been skeptical about kitesurfing in the local area due to lack of launches and very inconsistent wind, but heck, Atlanta has several ski/snowboard shops!

That is probably the right way to think about it. The other thing is that the kiteboards do nicely in the gentle side-on shore conditions of the coasts: Fla, Ga, & Carolinas. So, people may buy / learn here and actually kitebaord in Fla.

Thanks all for the comments.

I do believe that is difficult to imposible to train people in Lake Lanier, do to prevailing conditions (gusty wind, lot of trees for solo launching/landing, etc.) Agree with all that. The idea we have at LOCUSWIND is to teach people in the coast (Jekyll Is, Tybee, etc) and help them become proficient enough so eventually they can try the lake, when they have adquire good enough level to keep it safe for them and for others.

The gusty nature of the lake will not change, but fortunatelly this year a breakthrough technology development with the new BOW design kites (resemble more a wing -flatter than tradditional "C" shape kite), has been commercialized, and this allows kites to handle say 10 knos wind speed variation (unheard before with tradditional "C" shapped kites).

I believe this improvement alone will make it much more safer to practice Kitesurfing for experienced kiters in lakes like Lanier.

Hope to meet most of you this year in the water.

Rgds,

Emilio,

Do you have LW footpads in stock? Mine have warped and come off my board. I'd gladly buy them locally if you have them.

Also very interested in demoing the Sonic 11m. Have heard nothing but great things. Right now pumping 3 kites each session and trying to get lucky with the size of the minute is frustrating.
