Kite advices

Hi, i am new to the kitesurfing sport and very exited about it. I just went for a week of lessons to aruba but now wind Sad . So i want to buy a trainer kite till i can get some lessons . Any advice on the brand or size?
I have been windsurfing, surfing, snowboarding for years and cant wait to get into this new adventure. I am aware of the danger of the sport , that is why i wont be in the water until i get lessons. Also any suggestions on where i can go to practice with my trainer ( i live in alpharetta ).
Thanks in advance and i cant wait to go up to visit you guys on a windy day.

Phone up the kite shops in Fl. There's a good one, iirc, in Jacksonville, and probably a link on the links page. Trainers are small - 2 to 3 meters and some shops do some sort of program of exchange for beginners.

Good thing there wasn't wind in Aruba. Given the tendency to go downwind, you'd have been in Venezuala by lunch. Plan a visit to Hatteras, that's a more forgiving spot to learn.

St. Augustine had a Kiteshop as of 2 years ago, so there is probably a good chance its still around. They did lessons as well. Hatteras has many places as well.

Thanks guys,
Yes no wind in Aruba do you beleive it ? it lasted 2 weeks and my luck it was the time i was there. I wasnt worried about the downwind since i was in a kitesurfing school there and they had follow boats , but i never got on the water Sad .
I am planning to go to Hatteras or SC to get some lessons. after looking online i m debating between the "best "( brand ) trainer kite and the new cabrhina trainer who is exactely like a reak kitesurf but in 2 M and with the recon system and spining bar . one is 130$ and the other 390$ .Since it seems i wont be getting much water time on lake lanier ( no boat ) should i practice more with something that is like the real thing or should i stay with a foil trainer?
Thanks again

Hi
you are most welcome to join me next time its windy, I usually go to the old federal park, Ive been kitesurfing for about 2 and half years i can teach and I have about 7 kites .
on the contrary of what you might hear from others, we have a great time kitesurfing on the lake.
Ebay is a great place to get used kites since you are still learning but u have to be careful.

There is also a nice kiteboard shop in Savannah (much closer than the ones in FL). They give lessons too... http://www.hightidesurfshop.com/

There is a complete kite and board setup in the for sale section for $600
I know the kite has never been used and i think the board is fairly new also.

i would get the bigger trainer kite. I would learn to fly the kite and pratice flying while not looking up at it for as long as possible. Also on windy days i would practice flying the kite in the water and practice body drags and also prctice relaunching the kite as best you can to get the feel.
Once you can fly the kite then i would take the "lessons"..
