Julliette Report

For the curious - I did sail yesterday.  I was a little disappointed to find the water pretty much as cold as at Lanier.  In the wind shadow at the launch, it seemed to be mid thirties, but as soon as I got out I found my sail instantly icing, so...  Consistent with my other experiences on NW at Julliette, the wind shadow problem was unbelievably bad.  I'm sure on a full floater, it would be more managable.  Dead calm interspersed with half second microbursts at about 25...  I was cold and half beat by the time I got out to where the wind was cleaner.  It was a bit shloggy at first on 4.7, but soon came up quite strong.  I was out about one and a half hours and the sailing was extremely gnarly.  It was interesting, but I don't know if I'll ever want to sail in such conditions again.  Chris.

Chris,

You certainly deserve the iron man or wind warrior award for just making it out.

The wind at Julliette, sounds a lot like Galts this time of year.

What happens in a black hole stays in a black hole.

Re: Julliette Report

From the weather reports I saw, the wind was blowing out of the North down in Macon.  Sailing a north wind at Juliette is equivalent to sailing a south wind from Van Pugh. The wind direction plays a huge role in where I decide to sail -- SW and W winds are better at Juliette, while NW, N and NE winds are always better at Lanier.
