Re: Info on Corona Virus

This is gross but it gives a good idea of why the 6 foot thing can't be considered perfectly safe, especially indoors. Curbside pick up seems much better than going into a store.

Hall Co has now reported five deaths from COVID-19

Quote:
A total of 402 cases of COVID-19 were reported in Hall County in the state data provided at 7 p.m. April 15. The per capita rate was 194.1 per 100,000 residents, which is the highest in the Northeast Georgia area.

Re: Info on Corona Virus

BTW - there is plenty of evidence I've read that suggests the 6 foot spacing really does not give any assurances of avoiding infection- it just improves your odds. The 6 foot rule prevents infection from larger droplets of water from coughing, talking or breathing. However, those droplets can fall on a surface (e.g. your windsurf board when someone walks by and just happens to breathe) and cause infection. Another mechanism is when the droplets become aerosolized and can float around in the atmosphere for an extended period of time. So - just saying - avoid people at the lake to the maximum extent possible. Also, I suspect a trip to grocery store is probably a greater risk, especially if you get in a fight over a roll of toilet paper.

https://covid19science.blogspot.com/2020/04/covid-19-transmission-why-social.html

"SARS-CoV-2 is well suited for touch and aerosol transmission
The virus that causes COVID-19 has several characteristics that are favorable for fomite and aerosol transmissions. The virus is stable in aerosol droplets for at least three hours, and longer on surfaces. In contrast to rhinovirus, the SARS-CoV-2 virus replicates in lungs, where aerosol droplets are formed. Furthermore, virus shedding starts early, before the onset of symptoms, when infected persons are likely to still be socially active.

SARS-CoV-2 can be detected in aerosols and on surfaces
Several studies have shown that the corona virus can be detected in the air and on surfaces in hospital rooms of COVID-19 patients, even when the rooms are completely disinfected twice daily.
Another study found between 1 and 42 virus particles per cubic meter of air in various hospital settings; this corresponds to the typical two hour breath volume. In settings where mask supply is limited so that patients cannot use masks, is is possible that the virus concentration in the air would be higher."

Finally some good news. Sunlight kills the virus - quickly. So shelter in place outdoors. Lay your gear in the sunshine when you aren't using it to kill any virus that someone might have slobbered on it. I'm wondering if I go outside and stand in the sun for a few minutes can I skip washing my hands - they are so raw already that I can't take much more.

Restaurants will be open but experts recommend you still wear a mask. Crazy

Hey could be worse. At least we aren’t being arrested for windsurfing.

Governor Kemp has "set us free". Tomorrow is a no-wind day. Anyone up for going bowling (bring your own hand sanitizer), having a manicure, or getting a tattoo???

If you go bowling, make sure they take some of that spray they use for shoes and shoot it down your throat.

Hall County is still a hot spot

https://www.gainesvilletimes.com/news/health-care/kemp-highlights-increasing-covid-19-cases-hall-amid-statewide-decline/

Quote:
Hall County’s COVID-19 cases continue to rise as statewide leaders see decreases, Gov. Brian Kemp said during a press briefing Monday. Kemp said state officials have been monitoring the virus’ effects on the poultry industry, as Georgia, and Gainesville in particular, is a top producer.

...Coates said the previous free testing day on April 19 offered helpful insight about the county’s population. More than 300 people were examined that day.

“What it told us is that half the people that came were positive, and half of the positives were asymptomatic.” Coates said. “That was an incredible narrative for the community to have as we begin to loosen restrictions. We’ll see what the results from this testing tells us about Hall County.”

Re: Info on Corona Virus

If you want to know the COVID data for your zip code, in Fulton county you can look at these reports. It also has maps and census tract info, but I have no idea how figure out what census tract I'm in. It seems possible other counties may have similar reports. The number keep going up in Fulton and my zip code is up 10% in 2 days....I need to find a safer zip code.

The maps on page 3 and 4 are pretty informative.

We socially distance at Van Pugh plus the breeze blows anything downwind. I wouldn't launch a boat while we're rigging.... Biggrin (the boat launch is downwind of us)

Re: Info on Corona Virus

Just returned from an "essential" foray to Home Depot. I'll lie and tell you it had to do with my part time gig keeping the network of an essential medical practice going.

We're screwed. Apparently this whole social distancing and wearing mask thing missed a lot of people even in the more vulnerable categories. Most people were good - kept to space, mask, bandana, something - but some... Fool
