I will be in Albany the next few days -- so I am thinking that if the forecast holds, I will head to Panama City or Destin on Thursday for a day of sailing. I am ready for a day of REAL wind. If anyone will be in the area, let me know.
I'm not sure Galts is a good call. All the forecasts indicate the wind direction will be SE or S. That means an offshore breeze with a huge wind shadow. The best places at I know at Allatoona for S-SE is the Old Highway 41 day use areas #1 and #2. Unfortunately they are probably both closed for the season. You might be able to park and launch near the fishing jetty on the other side of the bridge. The low water level might be a problem too (currently 8’ low).
The forecast shows the wind strength peaking at 2:00 PM at 15-20 mph. So it might be better to take extra time in the morning to head to Vann's Tavern even though that means mixing with the "Lanier" crowd. Of course it also means that you’re likely to miss the whole day of work rather than just a few hours. Pity that is.
if you missed Vann's today, you missed nothing. I motored up after seeing Aniston had S15-25 and that weather looked to be a couple of hours away.
Water looked flat but couldn't figure out what to rig. Rig big? Didn't want to get stuck out on a 9.0 if it went gusty and 20ish. Went a little smaller.
Didn't matter anyway. it was 6-10 with the occasional 12. Good to be out but...
well, even if we didn't get a blow, it's nice that Lili wasn't Cat 4 anymore when it hit Louisiana.
Sorry I jinxed the Atlanta area with a threat to go to Van's. I was all the way in Cartersville and turned around and went back to Tennesse, thanks to Bill H. I sailed my 8.4 and had a great 4 hour session till the rain came and shut it down. Harison Bay in TN is a good spot with south winds, and flat water. Also no weeds in this area, which is common on the TN area.

I'll be at Galts Ferry in the morning expecting a big blow. Anybody else up for it?
