Help!

Good...Moved to Tuscaloosa for a great job at UA.
Bad.....I'm used to riding on Mama Erie guys I sailed with are sending me pics of the recent epic condions up there!

I realized this would be hard but.....

I've investigated Lake Tuscaloosa and Lurleen small but will probably work to get a fix in! Any tips or suggestions for best launches for a landlocked Tuscaloosan?

Re: Help!

Welcome. On behalf of all the GA football fans here... nevermind. Wink

Central AL is a bit of a mystery for us. Hopefully someone here isn't as clueless as I am. Lake Martin to your east is about as far as I've explored in the center of AL.

What I can tell you is that both North and South ends of AL absolutely rock, though. Mobile, Gulf Shores, etc and the TN River (Muscle Shoals, Athens, Decatur, Guntersville. I realize neither is that close to you but both can be absolutely worth the drive. I've sailed both and have some really neat memories.

OTOH, epic conditions on the Gulf don't require 6-7mm of neoprene. Biggrin

Keep in touch. Otherwise, you'll feel pretty lonely as windsurfing/kiting aren't really big sports in the South away from the beaches.

Re: Help!

Guy named Jim Leonard, a member of Birmingham Sailing Club on Lake Logan Martin, windsurfs (and sails lots of other stuff including a foiling Moth. He has THE best toys). No idea how to reach him... maybe via BSC. They're on a pretty good piece of the lake. I think S or SW wind is best there. Jack Stringfellow is in Pensacola and thereabouts. He's a captain, guide, waterman and used to own a WS shop. Big shredder when it blows. It's a bit of a hike, but there are very cool spots farther east on the panhandle. Cape San Blas is the best kept secret. Small but stoked group in the Tallahassee area go to Alligator Point and St George Island for wave sailing (really). 20knotsnob.com is the connection.

Crewed in a dinghy on Logan Martin in my pre-history. Should have mentioned it. Solid info, Foildood. Good

Re: Help!

I'm might work for UA but I'm a Buckeye through and through! Hahaha

Thanks all for info! The launch for Tuscaloosa sailing club looks promising almost 2/3 mile across and over a mile wide. Only problem is it's $650 to join but I'll probably do it for the access. I'll check out Logan Martin too. Been some nice windy warm days lately gotta get my gear down here ASAP!

That fee will be cheap if it means a place to change, rig and not worry about parking on nice warm weekends. Glad you have something sorted out for the local scene. But, please, when you get a chance, explore the north and south end of the state.

Buckeyes? Well, "Toto, we aren't in Columbus anymore." Biggrin
