Hatteras crowd - How was the weekend?

We had a fantastic weekend here in Atlanta with some wicked Easterly winds.

Big crowd at Van Pugh both days. Sails ranged from 5.9 to 7.5 on Saturday and 5.2 to 7.0 today. Nice warm water and just a couple of sailboats to share the lake with.

How are you guys doing there?

Gene's Rodanthe Report -

Saturday the forecast looked good so I left at 4:00am, which was really tuff. I arived at 3:00 after the 10 hour drive and stop to buy my share of the groceries. The rest of the group had just gotten into the house so no waiting around. It was a northeast wind and it was hard to tell the strength but I knew it was blowing as I had seen lots of whitecaps at the bridges. Also I heard a kiter yell to another kiter not to rig bigger than a 10.0 kite as it was blowing out there. I rigged my 6.0 on the 115 board and it was right on. I even swapped down to my 86 litter board for a while and it worked (note - the 86 liter Fanatic FreeWave is new and had only been wet once before.). It was a great way to start the trip.

Sunday was more of the same all day long. I sailed my 6.0 on the 115 liter Tabou Rocket. Same NE wind, FLAT, no jumping but great to work on jibes. I sailed from around 10:30 to 3:00, took lunch, then from 4:00 to 6:00 when it finally dropped down a tad. Then into the HOT TUB, I sure needed it. Another great day.

I see y'all had as much or more wind in Atlanta as we did ......BUT I LOVE THIS PLACE.

Forecast for today is not as strong and then the next few days are iffy. We're going to hopefully try the kites today (monday.) Gary and PIP flew thiers yesterday but the NE wind direction made it difficult. I was having too much fun windsurfing.

We had a small crowd at Vann's Tavern, but the sailing was excellent. The wind was up and down, but for me 5.8 was more than enough early and good in periods through the rest of the day. VT always has my vote for Easterlies. ChrisP.
