Great help from fire dept. $$$ at lake lanier

It was last Sunday ,winds from the east, decided to kite from Old federal park to Vanns. I was alone , setup my 17M takoon, launched it successfully went to get my board, thats when the wind suddenly dropped and with it dropped my kite right into the only tree where we usually launch Sad
big mistake but it happens , now my kite was caught in a 40Ft high tree, i tried climbing but it was too risky so me and my friend decided to call the fire dept. and after several phone calls heres what the guy says:

Sorry I can't help you its not our job, you would need to get a tree service guy, and by the way i am a tree service guy ! and it would cost you 300 dollers !

I was so angry i didnt care what happens to me so i climbed at my own risk and with the help of my friend we got it out of the tree after several hours, but had to pull it with force so eventually it was torn Sad

I never knew that we have to pay the Fire dept......

Ya, I know it sucks for you, but is it an appropriate use of tax payer's money to have the fire department rescue your kite from a tree? Also, what if a real emergency took place while they were doing this?

The coast gaurd charges a minimum $350.00 to rescue you, and they will not rescue your gear, it gets left behind.

Contrary to popular myth, they don't rescue cats stuck in trees either.

We appreciate your frustration but as others have mentioned - it's not their job. I could give you a host of analogies but, at this point, it would be rubbing salt in your wounds. If they had done it, they would be very nice guys doing it on their own time. But, in an official capacity, they have quite different responsibilities as nitrojiber mentions.

It's interesting that you mention that "we have to pay the fire dept". Well, those of us who are Hall County tax payers do. It's not a free resource. Sorry 'bout your kite.
