I have had a MRI for a rotator cuff problem. I have seen three doctors and I have done a large amount of research as to how to handle this problem.
I am sharing this with you in case you may someday have a similar problem.
My research was consistent with my 2nd opinion. That diagnosis is for me to have simple physical therapy for the rest of my life and that surgery is not a good option for me for several reasons.
My rotator cuff problem is not due to trama or a fall but rather due to my age and the fact that I have worn a hole in my cuff tendon.
The MRI did show two tears that were medium size. These tears will not heal and surgery will not correct the problem due to age, size of the tear and the fact that I have good strength and range of motion now.
I will be able to continue with dirt bikes, windsurfing and bicycling. I might hold off on the windsurfing until it warms up a bit.
So the good news is No Surgery!
If anyone ever wants to discuss what I have gone through or what I learned in my research, then feel free to ask me.
BTW my wife is happy about this too, since surgery recovery would make both our lives miserable for 3 to 6 months. Now I will not have to go through that recovery.

I am glad that you do not have to have surgery and that you can continue to windsurf and ride
Glad to hear it! Your research paid off big time. I wonder if independent studies or advice changed your decision about having surgery.

What changed my mind was the fact that my research corresponded to the exact diagnosis as the 2nd opinion. When I went into the first dr and my first dr visit after the MRI I had not done any research yet.

That's great news. I was worried we would have to go visit you in hospital and be nice to you and everything like that.

This was an awful thing to post, Randy, just awful. I spilled coffee on my keyboard laughing so hard.
+1 on the great news. Tough being a grandpa with a bad shoulder. Kinda hard to throw the little buggers up in the air.

Tore my labrum in my shoulder (like rotator cuff) a few years back with surgery and lengthy recover, sorry you get to miss out on all the fun. Not using your arm for months was a huge PIA, but fully recovered now it's better than my other shoulder. Good luck with PT, to quote my Dad "growing old is like frying bacon NAKED, you know you're gonna hurt, just not sure where".
Despite the fact that Randy refused to come see me in confinement and DD gave me great advice on cooking bacon in the nude, my PT trainer said I must overcome my fear of falling. So after a grueling day of PT he gave me some homework. He told me to watch this video and avoid these types of activities.

Please thank your PT for all these good examples of how not to sail.
