Linda,
Is this a thinly veiled attempt to get Randy to respond?  He's almost to the level where he loses his forum "Newbie" status and he seems to be posting a lot lately Wink

You were looking at last week's report.  Tomorrow is supposed to be NW-ish.  Best time will be (perhaps) noon til 3 pm.  Lanier usually gets the best from 2-4 on days like that but the avn for Gainesville looked pretty encouraging in the am.

Galts isn't famous for sailing on westerlies but if it's the lake you can get to, then go for it.

Whoops! Jet lag, maybe. Well, Randy, at least you know we're reading your report even if incorrectly.

I'm scared of boats on Saturday but thought an early east wind would be worth it.

wf:
The forecast that I checked for Marietta will have 9mph by 10AM, and by noon it will be 12mph from the NW and it will remain that way for a few hours. I am planning to go to Galts early. I was there on Thursday afternoon with light winds (I think from the west) and it was pretty good for trying out harness and footstraps for the first time. Any advice on sailing strategy, such as launching point, course suggestions and what to be careful about other than motor boats?

mimi,
I'm not the Galt's guru.  Randy, Bill, and the regular crew up there could help you.  I only make it that way about once a year.  Sorry.

Re: Galt's Saturday AM

Yes, the current Randy Report forecast was from last week.  Tommorrow may be nw say 10ish, but this time of year, everything is uncertain.  I think Galts is fine for an nw, though naturally the "hot dogs" prefer Van Pugh.  This time of year, it probably makes less difference than in the higher wind months.  Oridinarily, Van Pugh will have more wind than Galts.  However, when it comes to wind, there is no such thing as "ordinarily."

As for the boats, I think that getting there early is about the only solution.  As the day goes on more and more of them show up.

Re: Galt's Saturday AM

Pat and DeeDee Park; and I were up at Sunrise.  Fairly well powered on 9ish sails from 2-5.  Low traffic, beautiful weather.  We had the place almost to ourselves as the cool air and breeze kept people away.  I thought jr. was going to come up so went there to give him an onshore breeze.

I sailed down to VP and only saw one sail way downwind (green).  Had the smaller board at the time and didn't feel like clawing upwind out of that hole. The wind way upwind of VP was definitely less than on other parts of the lake.

Best wind of the trip was in front of Old Federal Campground, with the wind coming off Vanns.  Later saw a kite at Old Federal.

Re: Galt's Saturday AM

Lanier sounds nice. Should have made the drive. Instead, David and I went to Lake Acworth where we experienced all the nuances of variable winds. My board was leaking air out of the side seam so we quit. I propped it up on its side when we came home but couldn't tell if any water came out. I think I can do the repair with some stuff I have, but am wondering if I need to make a hole to try to drain water. Did not weigh the board before so I think that's out. Anybody have any thoughts on this.

Linda,

If the board is the Superlight II, it should weigh in at about 34 lb w/o any straps, cb, fin, etc.

As for telling if a board is leaking, put it so the side where the crack is (sounds like there is one if its leaking air)is the lowest point.  A couple of folding chairs will usually work as a support for example.

If it is leaking, then you really should see a pro, like Eddie Broduer.

It's the Equipe. I propped it immediately on coming out of the water and for over a day when home.  Have repaired with epoxy and will try it in the water in a day or two.
