Fri 2/5

Forecast shows good foiling winds in the afternoon and temps/sun reasonable for this time of the year.

I hope to be at VP around 1pm. Will post if work situation prevents that or if the forecast turns towards less favorable but that might be last minute (it is for that unpredictablility in my schedule that I usually don’t post about going).

I plan to join you in the afternoon at Van Pugh if the forecast holds as advertised.

First one there please send a live report! Does the Dome effect start being worrisome at this temps?

Temp is 50 which is probably about the same as the water probably not going to be building a dome. Here's the web cam pic at 1:10pm. I don't see any domes......proceed at your own risk. Yes 3

I'm with Randy. Not thinking there's enough of a temperature differential. Maybe 5-7 degrees (I'm thinking the water is in the mid upper 40s after the cold blast earlier this week. We see a 15 or even 20 differential later in the spring when it really shuts stuff.

If I could, I'd take a shot at it today.

Gilmer reporting 18-25 WNW and 52. Should have been pretty strong. I'd be interested in hearing how it was. No dome at my nearest parking lot from 2-3, but not much wind in the morning. The LLSC web cam was less encouraging - but maybe the direction or the glare is the problem.

No dome at Van Pugh.
Sorry for the lack of a report earlier, I didn’t stay long since
I had the kiddo and totally over sailed with a 6.0.

Barrett windsurfed, Me, Chris, Hamdi and Langdon foiled.

Hamdi and I did 5.7m on second shift.
Sometimes completely overpowered, sometimes had to pump to get back up on the foil.

Re: Fri 2/5

Interesting day. Started bumpy around 2 - overpowered with 5.7 and large wing. Got out, realized didn’t have the 4.7 with me, tried more out haul and 720 wing, only to find wind somewhat down and the wing too small for me+conditions. Back to 1100 wing and about an hour and a half of great foiling. Then Langdon shows up and the seas become angry - a lot of gust, back to too much power for my equipment and by that point tired body.

All in all, I will put today in the ‘pretty good lake Lanier day’ column -definitely better than many other options for kicking off the weekend early Smile

No worries. Got tied down anyways. Seemed like it overdelivered vs the forecast!

Re: Fri 2/5

With a forecast of 12 - 18 mph, I planned to foil and began rigging my gear upon arrival at Van Pugh. Then solid whitecaps appeared, followed by Alan calling it quits due to being overpowered on his 6.0m sail. I'd say it was blowing a steady 20 - 25mph with a couple of 20 minute lulls. I reluctantly converted to windsurfing, but ended up having a great time without the foil. I planned to take GoPro foiling photos, but instead got photos while windsurfing. I mounted the camera on a short pole to get a view of the board lifting up on the foil. Although it wasn't what I planned, the setup worked for windsurfing.

Heading home, the road out of the Park was blocked for 20 min. due to filming the TV series "Ozark". A large dining tent was set up with caterers preparing dinner for the staff. It was fun to watch sound, lighting & camera crews all coordinating to capture what looked like a chase scene of a black car speeding out a driveway.

Amazing how 3 days in FL could spoil us - ‘overpowered at times, had to pump at other times -much of which to no avail if I might add’ is pretty much any session at Lake Lanier, isn’t it? That is, if it not a complete bust! ?
